There are many causes of gynecomastia including endocrine disorders, kidney or liver disease, or drug-related, or idiopathic (no clear cause). Many cases are idiopathic without a specific underlying disease. Being overweight can also result in enlargement of the breasts from fat; this is referred to as pseudogynecomastia.

Gynecomastia can be surgically corrected via excision (direct removal of the breast tissue), liposuction, or by a combination of the two. This depends on each patient, and should be discussed between you and your doctor.
