Introduction
Sculptra® is another type of injectable soft tissue implant that is used to treat facial fat loss that develops with age. Made of microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, it stimulates collagen regrowth in the deeper layers of the facial soft tissue, and fills out areas – such as the cheekbones, jawline, temporal area, and nasolabial folds that have become deeper or more hollow with time. It is also used to treat facial hollowing from lipoatrophy due to HIV-related illness and medications.
What To Expect
Sculptra® injections are customized for each patient, depending on his or her particular needs and goals. The injections themselves take little time to perform and have little discomfort. A topical anesthetic is typically used. There is no down time. The effects, which are very natural-looking, become noticeable approximately four weeks after treatment. Despite the wait, the effects are much longer-lasting than most other soft tissue fillers, up to two years in many cases.
